Still on my groupon kick, I bought the dinner for 2 for Anita's on a whim as well. After seeing the reviews, I was skeptical, but the groupon was too good of a deal to pass up - 1 Queso dip appetizer, 2 entrees, and 2 drinks for $20. My boyfriend and I arrived for a very late night dinner at 10:30 on a Friday night. When we walked in they appeared to be closing for the night, but they urged us to stay. I'm so appreciative they stayed open for us. I ordered the garden quesadilla - DELICIOUS! It had zucchini, mushrooms, peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, cheese, and I substituted the carrots out for spinach. The vegetables were cooked perfectly. Other Mexican restaurants I have been to don't have as many vegetable options, so I was really impressed. We will definitely be making return trips to Anita's!!

I came here with some of my girlfriends for dinner recently. I can't say that there is anything really special about this place that separates it from all the other Mexican restaurants in the area. It's spacious enough on the inside to host large parties and there is outside seating for warmer weather. The service was fast and friendly. The food, well there are a couple of things on the menu that are better here than they are at the "other place" down the road in Newport, and vise versa. All in all the food was good and my friends and I enjoyed ourselves.

Having just moved from Southern California I was concerned about not having good authentic Mexican food. Imagine my pleasure in finding what I consider a good Mexican restaurant right here in Fort Thomas. I am not sure why others have rated the service poorly. In my 6 visits in the last 2 months the service has been prompt and attentive. Food has come quickly and drinks as well. On the food side here is a breakdown: Shrimp Diablo- rich flavorful sauce - spot on Stuffed pablanos - great stuffing - spot on Enchilada special - good version - not my fav though Shrimp cocktail - just like hawthorn in la - spot on Combination fajita's - up there with any I have had anywhere - really good Chulita Suisa - authentic - not my fav One thing I wished is that they made the cheap margarita fresh versus the slushy machine. But hey, the 20 oz margarita is cheap

First and last time customers, Extremely poor service, asked for salsa 3 separate times before we finally got more. Tacos had steak and pico and that's it, no cheese, no lettuce. Rice was subpar.

Always have enjoyed my meals at Anita's. Have not had issues with service, but usually get takeout. When dining in, always order a Margarita, they are fab there. Recommend - fish tacos or chimichanga.

Chips and salsa are poor. Not fresh. Fajitas salad was not good. Standard bag lettuce with dry chicken. Would not eat there again

Decent food, excellent drinks. The shrimp chimichangas are pretty good. I do know two people who swear they got food poisoning there though.

Food was ok..service was slow. Margaritas were good! The server took forever to come back so we could order. Was nicely remodeled building, remember when it was a Frisch big boy.

Great food and fast service! Try their $5.99 margarita! I highly recommend this restaurant. They do a very good job and provide personal service.

I am not sure what people find good about this place but it wasn't the food or the staff. The staff think it is cute to talk about people in Spanish like they won't understand. My rice was under cooked and they used imitation crab in their seafood plate. I would avoid this restaurant myself. I am normally not hard to please but this place earned it's 1 star rating. The only good thing was the salsa..

Let me start off by saying I was thrilled to have another local Mexican restaurant. This place is a former Frisch's Big Boy restaurant and you can tell in certain places, but they've done a decent job overhauling the place in general. Especially love the outdoor seating, always a benefit, in my mind! We've been here several times already. Our first visit was during their "soft" opening. They were clearly not expecting the type of large crowd and were short on servers. After about 30 mins our food finally arrived. My husband's order was wrong - he had ordered chicken and got beef, a big no no for someone who doesn't eat red meat. Since the waitress failed to stop over to check how our food was, he ended up eating everything except the beef burrito. His meal was taken off our final bill, but we left with a sour taste in our mouth (pun intended). Our second visit was much better, service wise, but we were there during off hours when the place wasn't busy at all. I actually found something I really, really like - the vegetable quesadillla. It was overflowing with veggies, not your typical onions and peppers, but also carrots, squash, mushrooms and zucchini. Yum! All flavored with delicious spices and just the right amount of creamy, melted cheese. I'm giving this place just 3 stars due to the service on our first visit + the prices are higher than what we typically like to pay for mexican food. Needless to say, though, we'll be back since I loved the veggie quesadilla.

My husband and son and daughter-in-law and I wanted to try the new restaurant. NO THANK YOU! We each had something different and we all agreed, it is OK, but does not come close to the New Port Ky Rio Grande and I have had better at many other Mexican restaurants. The only thing that got compliments was the guacamole, Also, the waitress called my daughter-in-law a B**CH in spanish, for criticizing her meal

I've had three good experiences here, the beer is cold, the staff stay busy and the food has been consistently good.

My wife and myself had dinner at Anita's Mexican Grill 2 Fridays ago. The place was full of activity when we walked in. They had several big groups dining that night so everyone seemed like they were hustling. We were seated right away. Our Hispanic lady server who spoke good English was helpful and made a few recommendations. My wife had a mango margarita which we both really liked. (I took a few sips). I had their Carne Asada while my wife had the Mojarra Frita(fried tilapia). My wife said her Mojarra Frita was ok although she said she had tasted better. Her disappointment was in the vegetables(cauliflower, carrots and broccoli) that came along with the dish. They are fine and healthy however, it does not go together with the dish. It would have been better with traditional Mexican accompaniments. I had the Carne Asada which was A-ok however I also felt that I've tasted better. The prices are reasonable and the locals seems to like the place. I wouldn't be averse to dining there again however, considering the many choices of Mexican restaurants, I wouldn't make the special trip to dine there.

After having been here now at least a dozen+ times I feel that Anita's will be a hit. I have already seen the crowd getting larger each time I go there. I have tried many of the menu items and have yet to be disappointed. I ALWAYS get the guacamole dip as it is large and fresh, full of nice fresh avocados and other crunchies. The menu item I am most fond of is the Fajita taco salad. Unlike most places that cook the vegetables along with the meat, this salad has the meat on top of a huge platter of fresh, crisp veggies. Spinach, lettuce, green peppers, onions, cukes, celery, etc. Absolutely delicious!!! So flavorful that dressing isn't even needed, as a matter of fact I just toss a little gauc on top and dig in. Service is always top notch as the entire staff works as a team. They also have a full bar and make a mighty tasty house margarita. There is also a patio if you prefer the outdoors, although due to its location the view of a Shell station is the best you can hope for. There are also plenty of televisions so that you can watch your sporting event of choice. After you have been there a few times they also start to recognize you and ALWAYS stop by the table to say hi or thank you for stopping in. Bottom line is this place is truly a no brainer if you want fresh and authentic Mexican food. Anita's, YOU ROCK!!!!! UPDATE: 01/24/2015 Why I went from 5 to 3 stars: Sorry to say that the past few times we have been there that the service is slipping. The margaritas seem to have gotten weaker. I always liked the salads there and while they are still good, they are very hard to consume when you have to ask for dressing numerous times. Seems as if all the GREAT servers they started with are now all gone and that the replacements are just not as enthusiastic. Please Anita's, bring back the service and quality you opened up with....You used to be my Friday night fave but now due to the above mentioned issues, I rarely come in. I hope that the owners take this as intended because in today's world there are Mexican dining choices everywhere. You started off as a winner but it now seems as if you have fallen to the level of all the others. Get them in get them out. Such a shame.

Thank goodness there is finally a decent Mexican place in the area. Unfortunately I think Rio Grande has lost their touch in taste and service, and Anita's has done an excellent job picking up Rio Grande's short-comings. Overall great service, and great authentic Mexican food. I'll be back again for sure!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
